Attack Speed, or ASPD, is how quickly you attack with auto attacks. Your current attack speed can be checked by going into the status window (Ctrl + A). Under normal circumstances, your attack speed is 0. Various weapons affect your attack speed, either negatively or positively. Heavy Armor decreases your attack speed, while Clothing and Dancer's Costume increase it. Paper armor also massively decreases it. It is possible for attack speed to show up as a stat on modded costumes.

Attack Speed Scaling[]
Attack speed operates on a diminishing scale. The more attack speed, the less of a return you gain. Below lists some general attack speed values from 0-20 and their respective attack interval scaling. The intervals are represented in seconds. For example, being at 0 attack speed means you will be attacking every 1.2 seconds. Attack speed is capped at 20, and it is possible to go to negative values as shown below. There is seemingly no limit to how low attack speed can go.
Any flat attack speed values (such as from Aim or Lash Out) are based off of the attack speed number, while percent attack speed values (such as from Howling Wolf) are based off of the attack interval number. Percent values come after flat values.
